Newsletter March 2013

Dear Friends,

Coming back from my sabbatical in Boston, things soon return to the normal routine. There is lots to be done and to catch up with. In terms of working for justice and peace. There are two nice projects I'd like to share with you. Early April I will be visiting a project for handicapped athletes n Rio de Janeiro. With the World Cup and the Olympics coming up, a lot of awareness is being raised about the full participation of handicapped people in society. This doesn't only mean wheel chair accessibility in public buildings but also recognizing the sportive talents of the handicapped. Brasilia/Auxilia is sponsoring -through your support- a project for 60 such athletes. The asked for sports clothes and equipment and we'd like to help them on their way. After my visit you will see photo's on this on our website.

Secondly, the Carnegie Foundation in The Hague has asked me to organize a conference at the Peace Palace about Faith in Justice. This will happen on 11 September 2013 in the academic Hall. Representatives from 5 world religions will have a round table conversation about the concept of reconciliation between victims and perpetrators. Former minister of Justice, Mr. Hirsch Ballin will be the moderator of the event.

In the last newsletter I gave some information about the 3 wells which will be made by the June Foundation in Gambia. At the moment we know that there are nameplates waiting in the office in Gambia of the June Foundation. There has been a delay because Nel Bus, the driving force behind the Foundation, died suddenly. A dreadful blow not only for the Foundation but of course for her family and everyone who knew her. We wish them much strength.

Last week we have given the Watu Wangu Foundation € 500. Inge , Erwin and Maria are collecting money for their project in Kenya. They would like to buy a tractor with a water tank in order to provide drinking water for their school. It is a good initiative and we would like to support them.
Our next fund raising event will be a Food Fair sometime in October or November. We will keep you informed.

With our best wishes,
Kees Ooijevaar, secretary
