Newsletter December 2013

Dear Friends,
Our Auxila/Brasili-Ja team had a good 2013. Even though the financial situation in the Western world was a bit less favorable, your generous support continued! Recently pope Francis said during one of his audiences: "When we look at the crisis in the world, we usually go by stock exchange ratings or financial criteria, but we hardly look at the increasing number of homeless people or refugees. As long as we have a reasonable existence, then we should be very careful to use such a big word as -crisis-." In other words, life looks a lot better when we look at what we do have instead of what we lack. I am counting our blessings of 2013.

The next big event on my agenda will be the Nuclear Security Summit which will be held in The Hague on 24-25 March 2014. President Obama, as well as many other world leaders will come to The Netherlands to discuss our common safety. On the day before, at 10.00 am. our International Parish will host a celebration with many UN staff for the success of this Summit.
I wish you all therefore in 2014 a safe and peaceful new Year.

Fr. Sjaak de Boer

Two major fund raising events require our attention at the moment. First there is the Food Fair on Sunday February 23rd 2014 in 't Fortuin in Wervershoof. The second event is the ascent of Mont Ventoux in the weekend of 21th and 22nd June 2014. The proceeds of these events are for the Watu Wangu Foundation for the purchase of a tractor with water tank. The water tank will provide drinking water for a school in Utoo (Kenya) .
In recent months we have supported two projects.
Sunny Laan is raising money for a little farm in India. Orphaned children with physical and/or mental disabilities are living there.
Another initiative involves starting a school in Cambodia. Three young people from Wervershoof are working there for at least 3 months.
It is commendable that young people commit themselves in this way.
All information can be found on our website: www.auxilia - Brasili - ja.nl
All of this only can happen with your support. We want to thank you very much and we wish you all the best for the coming year.
We would prefer you to receive this newsletter by e-mail. It makes it a lot easier for us. Your email address will only be used for this.
